Some said the streets are the real place where all designers get their inspirations from. This explains a lot why The Sartorialist is so important and influential to the entire fashion world. When the other street fashion snapshots want so hard to capture the trend, the Sartorialist show us fashion can be so much more than hip, chic and trendy. I remember he said: "When I am in a neighborhood I'm not looking for the "next big trend" or a ground-breaking style statement, but just reacting when I see a person and thinking to myself "he/she looks nice."
His first book is coming and I'm sure this will definitely be an extension of his vision.
It comes out August 12th in the US, and worldwide by early September.
Stella McCartney plays cute? Yes. She deliberately included the cartoon character Bambi (and a real Bambi behind) in her fall 09 ad campaign because she thinks "the clothes in the campaign are looking quite fierce, and we wanted to contrast them with the innocence of Bambi." Well, in my opinion, the clothes are fine, but I can't help but wonder: why the model looks so serious? (or puzzled? "why am I here with Bambi?")
Remember two months ago when I covered the news that Anna Sui is designing a collection for Target, which is inspired by Gossip Girl . I still can recall my excitement about the collection...until I got to see some of the looks from the collection. To be honest, I'm really disappointed by what Anna Sui came up with.
If you told me that this is one of the "Anna Sui" collection, I would not be as much disappointed as I am now because I never expect too much from her. But if she said that out load this collection is inspired by Gossip Girl, I expect to see something modern and glamorous. Sadly, the collection is rather boring and ordinary as Anna Sui's perspective of a Gossip Girl seems to be very much different from me.
Anna Sui is like scratching an itch but only outside the boots. It feels like every look down there is missing something. Blair's are not sweet and elegant enough. Serena's should be more sexy and glamorous but I can barely see the neck from the looks. Jenny's are far far away from the word edgy. And I seriously think that Anna Sui hates Vanessa because those looks are terrible, see that color and pattern, they are like grandmothers. And I don't remember seeing any one of the Gossip Girls wearing a long top plus leggings but Anna Sui seems addicted to this idea. I'm not fancy about tights and leggings thing in each and every look.
Sorry Anna, I don't mean to be harsh but I think I really expected too much from this collection.
Couturier Christian Lacroix is not giving up on his Fall Couture Show on the coming July. Mr Lacroix filed for bankruptcy months ago, which broke our hearts, but he insists to put on the show on his own with helps of some generous friends and suppliers. I strongly believe that with the spirit like Mr Lacroix, his Couture show, though maybe smaller, will be as brilliant as usual. Let's keep anticipating for his great work!
